Excavators are multiple usage heavy construction or engineering machines used to dig or move large objects. They are also known as diggers or 360-degree excavators (sometimes simply referred to as 360). They are in fact popular by one of the brand names- JCB too. Excavator
construction machinery are widely used in the construction sites meant for roads, buildings, highways, landmarks, skyscrapers etc. Using an excavator makes the task of lifting and carrying much easier and quick. An excavator's design is very distinguished and this is one construction machine which is easily recognized almost anywhere. The long arm is the most important part of the excavating machine.
Types of Excavators
Excavator
Excavators are available in a wide range of sizes and capacities. The heavier the equipment, the greater is its capacity to lift. The sizes can be small enough to enter through a standard doorway or very large. The most important factor to consider when looking at smaller sized excavators is the amount of movement. The greater the degree of movement, the more flexibility is the equipment. Smaller models are used for projects like home building. The small sized excavators are usually equipped with a small dozer on the front. The largest excavator models are used in mining to dig up the earth that covers mineral deposits. Based on the size and the usage, the types of excavators are grouped into following categories :

Parts of Excavator
There are two parts in an excavator: a driving base and a strong, powerful boom arm with an attachment designed for digging or lifting. The cabin or the driving base is attached to a base that usually has tracks or wheels. Excavators also consist of bucket, cab,
backhoes and are placed on tracks or wheels. Often the buckets are replaced by an auger, handler, breaker or grapple as per demand and usage. Some of the excavators also have the small dozer blade which is attached to the under carriage, for pushing removed materials back into hole. Excavators are sometimes also called as 360 degree excavators. The excavator is controlled by an operator who is inside the small cabin attached to the base and who controls the arm, that does the digging or lifting job.
Excavators Uses
Excavators have multiple usage. They find their application from big infrastructure to smaller projects. With their huge carriage capacities and high horse power they are used in the demolition of big buildings, digging of trenches, foundations and holes, lifting of heavy materials like cement blocks and pipes, landscaping and river dredging. They are also used in placement of pipes and in mining, basically open-pit mining.
