Mechanical Operations of a chip spreader

Chip spreader is powered by diesel engine and has spread hopper of different size. An individual one foot power gates gives the variable hopper flexibility and increases productivity. Other equipments used by chip spreader are conveyor belts, container, hydrostatic drive, planetary axle etc.

Before spreading chips, asphalt is mixed with water. This emulsified mixture is then applied to the road using a chip spreader or spray truck. As soon as the liquid asphalt meets the road surface, the water starts to evaporate. After this a layer of crushed gravel is applied by a spreader. Next, the gravel is compacted and embedded into the asphalt by rubber-tire rollers.
