Concrete
paving machinery is utilized to pave various pavements, path and
walkways in set pattern. Concrete pavers used, are available in various
shapes and designs. There are mainly two types of concrete paving- slip
form paving and fixed form paving. In slip form paving, a machine rides
on treads over the area to be paved. In fixed-form paving, stationary
metal forms are set and aligned on a solid foundation and staked
rigidly. Final preparation and shaping of the sub grade or sub base is
completed after the forms are set.
Before pavement is done the soil must be first graded and compacted.
This is followed by laying of materials below the concrete which is
called as sub base. Sub bases may be constructed of granular materials,
cement-treated materials, or open-graded, highly-permeable materials.
After the hardening of the sub base, tiebars or reinforcing steel are
placed and properly aligned in preparation for paving which is done by
slip form or by fixed form paving.
Applications
In both commercial and residential construction projects, the use of
concrete pavers is growing rapidly. Pavers interlock together to form a
patterned surface which can be removed and re-installed. Concrete pavers
are manufactured in various textures and colors. Their major
applications can be summarized as follows :
- Pavements
- Walkway through a city park
- Driveways
- Airport runways
- Patios
- Outside corporate office
- Paving highways etc.
